How to make a Worry Monster
If your child has worries you can create a Worry Monster. A Worry Monster is a monster that can take away or share your child’s worries.
To make a paper Worry Monster you will need: a piece of paper, pencil, scissors, felt tips/ crayons
-
Fold the piece of paper in half.
-
On the folded edge write your child’s name.
-
Leaving a 1cm gap around the name cut it out.
-
Open the piece of paper.
-
Rotate the paper until you can see a monster.
-
Draw then colour your monster.
You can make the monster any size depending on how big you write the name. If you want your child to keep the monster with them it can be laminated for protection.
If you wish to turn this Worry Monster into a toy it is quite simple. You will need: material (white/ patterned or from a piece of old clothing that your child has), cotton , wadding, felt or material pens, glue.
Once you have the paper monster you can use this as a pattern.
-
Place the paper pattern on the material and cut two pieces. Remember to leave a 1cm seam allowance.
-
With right sides together sew around the edge leaving a 4cm opening.
-
Turn inside out and stuff with wadding.
-
Sew closed the opening.
-
Either draw the features onto the monster or cut out material and stick on.
